Nobody can say that Shekou is boring! Along with the SWIC activities there are also many great community activities to join in. If you are interested in organizing a new activity, please contact us at swicnews@swiconline.com. Please note that you have to be a member to organize an activity for SWIC.

There won't be any lessons available, but all levels are welcome to practice. If interested, please contact Lynn Possing or Damini Kumari. Please be sure to let them know what level you are (beginner, intermediate or advanced).
Hash
Every Saturday, buses leave at 2pm from the Snake Pit (behind Pizza Hut and over the Red Lantern) and transport you to a secret location to hike or run through the Chinese countryside. The hash (a type of paper chase) is a great way to get some exercise and meet new people. It has been going strong in Shekou since November 12, 1984! The cost is $60 RMB per person and covers transportation, beer, water and soda. At the end of the hash, there is generally a lot of bawdy fun and a beer drinking ceremony where newcomers are expected to introduce themselves. Children may attend the hash at their parent's discretion. After the return to Shekou each Saturday, we usually go for a meal at a local Chinese restaurant. This is an excellent opportunity to sample local cuisine and practice your Mandarin! If you would like more information on the Shekou Hash, please email Meg.
Mah Jong
Mah Jong players meet every Tuesday afternoon at 2pm in Jingshan # 125. All players are welcome. We will be happy to teach you to play. Please contact Heidi Wong on 2667 6020 for more information.
Mother and Toddler Group
There are lots of babies and toddlers out there, so get together and swap stories and ideas. The Mother and Toddler Group meet every Tuesday afternoon from 3-5pm and every Thursday morning at 9.30am. We meet at a different home each time, so check the Families page in the newsletter of the upcoming events on the website for further information.
Orphanage
Do you have a tender heart and a pair of loving arms that you would like to share with an orphaned child? We'd love to have you join us! We visit local orphanages every Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday afternoon and Friday mornings. There are children of all ages and sizes and capabilities. Currently, we are especially concerned about two rooms full of fragile children that really need some cuddles. Please email Judene Irvine at shentoddler@hotmail.com.
Touch Rugby
The 'boys' and a few 'girls' play every Wednesday night from 8pm to 9pm. We play on the China Merchants field opposite ParknShop. All newcomers are welcome and the boys that play week after week are very accommodating to new players that haven't played before. For more information, visit the website www.shekou-rugby.com.
Cricket
A chance to play the sport of gentlemen (and ladies!) and intellectuals even if you are neither! The first Cricket team in Shekou has been formed. They meet for practice once a weekend, usually Sunday around noon, location announced. All newcomers, experienced and beginners are welcome. Contact Jonathan Hyman if you are interested.
